Value Maritime’s Filtree System is an innovative, compact solution that integrates a SOx and Particulate Matter Scrubber with an Onboard Carbon Capture (OCC) unit. Designed specifically for small to medium-sized vessels, it helps shipowners meet environmental regulations while advancing their decarbonisation goals.

At the heart of the Filtree is a high-efficiency scrubber using Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) technology, which maximises the contact surface between wash water and exhaust gases. This enables the system to capture 99% of SOx, up to 90% of PM2.5, and 99% of PM10.

To further reduce environmental impact, Value Maritime has developed a unique two-stage Washwater filter that removes ultra-fine particles and soot from the effluent discharge, qualifying Filtree systems as clean-loop.

Following the scrubber, the cooled and cleaned exhaust gases enter the Carbon Capture System Duct (CCS Duct). Here, the gases interact with a solvent (liquid amines), which absorbs the CO₂. The solvent rich with CO₂ is stored onboard in 20-foot ISO tank containers or a holding tank at ambient temperature and pressure. Once fully rich, the solvent is offloaded and the captured CO₂ can be reused in industrial applications where it is a valuable resource.

The Filtree System is available in multiple sizes, suitable for vessels with engine capacities ranging from 3.0 MW to 20 MW.

Building on the proven performance of the original Filtree System, Value Maritime’s Advanced Filtree System offers a comprehensive emissions reduction solution, combining SOx and Particulate Matter scrubbing with next-level Onboard Carbon Capture.

This upgraded system retains the core SOx and Particulate Matter Scrubber, powered by our patented Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) technology. After the exhaust gases are scrubbed and cooled, they enter a second RPB unit designed specifically for CO₂ absorption, enabling significantly higher carbon capture rates.

By using RPB technology for both scrubbing and carbon capture, the system maintains its compact footprint and modular design, making it easy to integrate across a wide range of vessel types. The Advanced Filtree System can be tailored to meet specific operational and environmental goals, offering a scalable solution for shipowners preparing for stricter regulations and carbon accounting frameworks.

Value Maritime’s Carbon Catcher is a standalone carbon capture system designed for vessels already operating on sulphur-free fuels such as methanol and LNG. Built on our proven Rotating Packed Bed (RPB) absorption technology, it delivers high-efficiency CO₂ capture without the need for a scrubber.

In this configuration, the system includes a dedicated cooling unit to lower the temperature of exhaust gases before they enter the RPB absorber, ensuring optimal conditions for CO₂ absorption. This innovation allows shipowners to benefit from Onboard Carbon Capture even when using clean fuels, further reducing their environmental impact and supporting carbon accounting strategies.

Compact, modular, and easy to integrate, the Carbon Catcher offers a flexible solution for future-proofing vessels and meeting evolving sustainability targets, without compromising operational efficiency.

All Value Maritime systems, including the Filtree System, Advanced Filtree System, and Carbon Catcher, can be delivered as plug-and-play solutions, specifically engineered to simplify retrofit installations.

Each configuration is built around a modular design, with all major components housed in a standardised casing. This approach minimises the need for structural modifications to the vessel and allows for quick installation, significantly reducing off-hire time and operational disruption.

Whether upgrading an existing fleet or preparing for future regulations, our plug-and-play concept ensures a smooth and cost-effective transition to cleaner operations. It’s a practical solution that delivers environmental impact without compromising uptime or vessel performance.

At Value Group, we apply a distinctive methodology to Onboard Carbon Capture, separating the CO₂ capture process from the energy-intensive handling and processing stages. This strategic split between capturing onboard, processing onshore, delivers multiple key advantages:

  1. Minimal impact onboard: By avoiding onboard desorption and liquefaction, we reduce fuel consumption by up to 30%. The system is easy to operate by the existing crew and stores captured CO₂ safely at ambient temperature and pressure, simplifying logistics and integration.
  1. Optimised efficiency across the CCUS value chain: Shifting energy-intensive steps to shore allows us to leverage renewable energy, benefit from economies of scale, and liquefy only when needed, maximising flexibility and reducing the overall carbon footprint.
  1. Lower CAPEX and OPEX: The simplified onboard system reduces upfront investment, while lower fuel consumption and streamlined operations cut ongoing operational costs, delivering a cost-effective and sustainable carbon capture solution across the full CCUS value chain.

We also check the system after installation, adjustments can be made remotely and of course we are ready to provide you with maintenance and service work. We are at your side throughout the process, as a “member of your crew”.

Installation

Value Maritime offers a full service package, including the turnkey installation of the Filtree System (including the CO₂ Capture Module if requested) and CO₂ Batteries on board the ship. Thanks to the “plug and play” concept, we are able to pre-install and  pre-commission the systems, which makes the installation process much simpler and faster compared to the conventional systems.

Value Maritime supervises the entire process, advise, supply the required material, the engineering and everything is professionally installed. The systems are installed and  fully commissioned without docking in 10 days.

Filtree System Financing

At our core, we strive to provide solutions that are simple. This also applies to the financing of our systems. As with solar panels, for example, we offer three financial solutions for using our systems:

Agreement type OwnershipMaintenance includedPayment
BuyLumpsum
LeaseMonthly fixed fee, no upfront costs
Fuel Saving AgreementMonthly % of fuel saving, no upfront costs

Thanks to the standardisations and simplicity of the plug and play system we have developed, the total cost for the Filtree System including installation is far lower than that of other traditional exhaust gas cleaning system retrofits.

The all-inclusive modular concept supports financing arrangements independent from the present ship’s financing.

Possibility for vessel operators (shipowners, charterers or shipmanagers) to Buy, Lease or Full Saving Arrangement the complete installation including retrofit. After a period the Filtree System can be removed from the vessel and placed on another vessel making it suitable also for older vessels.

We are more than happy to tell you about our Filtree System, CO₂ solutions and financing options
